Key Features of Tielle Adhesive Dressings
Tielle adhesive is an island dressing with a multi-layered
structure consisting of a thin sheet of hydrophilic absorbent poly-urethane foam
applied to the centre of thin polyurethane foam membrane coated with an acrylic
adhesive. The inner surface of the polyurethane foam island is covered
with an apertured plastic film made from ethyl methyl acrylate that acts as a
low-adherent wound-contact layer. This film also reduces the loss of fluid by
evaporation from the wound surface thus helping to maintain a moist wound environment.
The wound contact surface of the dressing is covered with two pieces of
paper coated with a release agent that act as a carrier and facilitate application.
Tielle Adhesive is waterproof and the polyurethane foam backing forms an effective
barrier to bacteria under normal conditions of use. The polyurethane foam backing
is highly permeable to moisture vapour, a property that makes an important contribution
to the total fluid-handling characteristics of the dressing. |
