| A hydrocolloid is an adhesive dressing consisting of various natural or synthetic polymers e.g. gelatine or pectin.
They are interactive when in contact with wound exudate and will form a gel, which may be cohesive and/or hydrophilic. This gel swells into the cavity. Will re-hydrate necrotic and sloughy wounds thereby facilitating debridement; an initial increase in wound size may be seen.
